Introduction to Grange-over-Sands

Grange-over-Sands is a small Edwardian Seaside Resort on the southern edge of the Lake District.   It makes an ideal holiday destination as a base for touring the Lake District particularly for people with limited mobility and other disabilities.

Grange retains much of its Edwardian charm today ensuring a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Lake District’s tourist hotspots.   The Edwardian Festival, is held annually in June to celebrate Grange’s heritage.

The locals will assure you that Grange is often warmer and drier than the surrounding area, thanks to the Gulf Stream and shelter from the hills to the north.   This favoured microclimate is a positive boon for wheelchair users in particular.

Grange’s best kept secret is probably its promenade – a broad strip of level traffic free tarmac with spectacular open views across the Kent Estuary to the Pennine Hills beyond. It is fringed with attractive borders and formal gardens containing sub tropical and is undoubtedly one of the finest promenades for people with limited mobility in the whole country.

Built on a hill-side, much of Grange’s holiday accommodation has spectacular views from its rooms and terraces.   What better place to unwind and relax.
